Your Little Act Of Kindness Can Change Someones Life

Sushmita Mandal, ECE, 2018-2022

Sushmita Mandal was born to a lower middle-class family of Sindri. Her father is a seasonal labour and does farming in the off-season and her mother is a housewife. She has a younger brother who is doing graduation from a government college in Sindri. Her parents found difficult to meet the ends and she had faced many barriers and detours academically, socially and economically. In spite of all these stumbling blocks, Sushmita never gave up. People say life is not a continuum of pleasant choices, but of inevitable problems that call for strength, determination and hard work and Sushmita proved this.

She did her schooling from a government school and scored 78% in her matriculation. After the results when everybody was praising her for her meritorious performance in matriculation, she was worried about her future studies as her family was struggling financially. But soon Sushmita got a ray of hope from a foundation that provided financial backing to excellent students after which Sushmita took admission in Dr. Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Inter college Sindri and got 69% in her intermediate. Meanwhile she also joined an NGO called Prayas India which helped her prepare for various competitive examinations. She worked hard and cracked JCECE in her second attempt and got into BIT Sindri.

Every thing was all right until first month of her Btech college, after which she started facing problem in paying the college and mess fee. Her family still and all managed this. Sushmita knows very well how much efforts her parents are putting and so never take anything for granted. She avails herself of every opportunity that she gets. Be it extracurricular or academics, she outperforms her competitors.

Sushmita got to know about Anant Prayas from Prayas India after which she applied and got selected for the interview. Various detailed rounds of interview were conducted before she finally qualified for the distribution round. Currently she is focusing more on technically educating herself by enrolling in various courses. She is not daydreamers instead she believes in making her dream come true. Filled with great zeal and ambition, she is working towards her aim of becoming an IAS officer and serving the nation.

Sushmita has suffered a lot and knows how it feels to live up with very few resources. She is greatly indebted to all the people who are backing up this commendable initiative. She urges more and more people to come up and help as much as they can because there are numerous “Sushmita” waiting for their ray of hope.

Vandana Sharma, chem engg, 2018-2022

A wise man once said- “Enthusiasm is common, Endurance is rare” and Vandana Sharma completely adhere to the definition of endurance. Born in Banaras, Vandana did her early schooling from there. But soon her family moved to Punjab and then finally to Katras due to financial constraints. All this while places hardly mattered to her and she kept working hard and excelling. Her father now works in Rajhans factory which is a brick company. Her mother is a home-makers and does stitching when she gets time. She had two brothers and both study in Katras college.

Vandana did her matriculation from Rajendra Balika Uchha Vidyalaya (JAC board affiliated) and got 86%. She won acclaim for her meritorious performance and even received scholarship after which she did her intermediate from Saraswati Vidya Mandir and scored 88%. In spite of her family struggling financially and could not afford good coaching for her like every child of her age would get, with firm determination and hard work she cleared JCECE and got admission into BIT Sindri.

BIT Sindri is whole new experience for Vandana. After getting into college she did not stop, she is exploring every area and constantly making progress. Being diligent in her studies, she holds the position of branch topper in her batch. She is a versatile girl and take part in various extracurricular activities in the college.

Vandana soon developed interest for NX designing but since she could not pursue her interest as she did not had laptop. But coincidentally one of her seniors told her about Anant Prayas. She applied and feel lucky enough for being selected for 8th round of Laptop distribution after various round of interview.

She explains how this humble help from Anant Prayas changed her life completely. She is now working harder and making full use of every opportunities that come along her way. As she says, she is grateful to each and every person connected to this generous initiative and appeal more people to get associated and donate as much as possible so that no such voices be left unheard.
